Talisker Whisky Challenge

Arc Monitoring is proud to have the opportunity to support the attempt of a Bristol based four man rowing team who will be courageously attempting to row 3,000 nautical across the Atlantic as participants in the Talisker Whisky Challenge. Whilst doing so, they will be raising funds for the Movember Foundation, the leading global organisation addressing major health issues faced by men.

Once they leave the safety of the harbour, our team will be on their own on the vast ocean and at the mercy of the elements until they arrive in Antigua in late December. They will not however be completely on their own as operators within the Arc Monitoring control room will be tracking the team’s progress and keeping watch to ensure they are safe during the approximate 40 days they are likely to be at sea.

“We have considerable experience of remotely monitoring activity in harsh environments and are planning to utilise our control room facilities to keep a close eye on the team throughout their journey,” said Jonathan Sturley. “With the benefit of satellite transmission technology, we will be able to provide an opportunity for the team to stay in contact 24/7 and we are also intending to establish a video link from the boat to our monitoring centre.

“The protocols we have in place which are normally used as a response to activations from Lone Worker protection devices, will be adapted to provide the team and their families with peace of mind by knowing Arc Monitoring operators will take rapid appropriate action if there are any concerns about the team’s safety.”

About the Movember Foundation

Since 2004, the Movember Foundation charity has run events to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer and depression. A key objective is to encourage men, whom the charity refers to as ‘Mo Bros’, to get involved with the aim of increasing early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reducing the number of preventable deaths. Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
